Since our beginnings in 1987, OLSENBEAL has specialized in heavy
industrial construction. We have worked extensively in a variety
of locations throughout the West, including companies such as
Geneva Steel, Continental Lime, Holnam Cement Plant, and
Ashgrove Cement Plant. In 1991 we participated in the modernization
of the Geneva Steel Mill located in Vineyard, Utah. We
performed the steel erection and mechanical installation for the
$100 million continuous caster project. Concurrent with that project
we removed and reinstalled a widened roll-line from 6’ to 10’
in width. Our peak employment was up to 175 ironworkers and millwrights.
During that period in time, we removed over 100 carloads of roll-line
related equipment from a steel mill in Pennsylvania. We completed
many other projects for Geneva Steel up through 1998 that involved
extensive heavy rigging and millwright work.
Ashgrove Cement Plant located in Lemington, Utah has been
a customer of ours from the beginning. From general plant maintenance,
to specialized installation projects, we have served Ashgrove
Cement with a superior service. Some of our projects there include:
Bull gear installation, various kiln section replacements, U-tube
upgrades and replacements, clinker silo and loading dock installation,
and crusher repairs and modifications.
In 1992 we installed a 650-ton per day capacity kiln for the Continental
Lime Company’s Pilot Peek Plant located in West Wendover,
Nevada. We have since worked with continental lime company at
their various other project sites, in repairing and replacing
kiln sections and installing a variety of heavy equipment for
their expansion projects.
Holly Oil – In the fall of 2005 we were
awarded the contract to unload and set a 628,000 lbs vessel for Holly Oil Refinery in North Salt Lake City, Utah. Because of the quality of our work and efficiency of our workforce, we were asked to remain on site by Benham Construction (the project general contractor) to perform the work required to finish the remaining steel modifications and installation in order to complete the project. We field fabricated and install many of the misc. structural steel items that were needed expeditiously. Our two week contract to set the large vessel turned into a 4 month contract extension to complete the site upgrades. The work was completed successfully.
Chevron Refinery – we were successful in our bid to Harder Mechanical of Portland, OR to do the majority of the structural steel and vessel installation for the Chevron Refinery upgrade in Salt Lake City, Utah. The contract
required many heavy vessels to be installed and a variety of steel structures to be erected. We unloaded, hauled and erected a total of 20 differing vessels, compressors, exchangers, and reactors. We erected approximately 340 tons of steel in addition to the heavy lift setting. In addition to our contractual work, we were asked to stay on site and finish several other items not in our contract. Much of the extra work required field fabrication / modification due to time constraints. We completed the project on time and within budget.
IM Flash Technologies – In 1995 Micron Technologies came to Lehi, Utah to build a new manufacturing plant. They began a rapid construction process which was ended prematurely due to market fluctuations. Until 2006, the plant was under utilized as a testing facility only. In 2006, Intel signed up for a venture with Micron to manufacture memory chips for the new generation of handheld music / video players. The $500 million upgrade to the IM Flash Technologies plant in Lehi, Utah began in mid-2006. We were awarded a combination of $5 million dollars worth of work between the two construction manager companies – Fluor Enterprises and Hoffman Construction – who are overseeing all the work on site. We are currently on site, working hard to complete a very demanding schedule that has IM Flash Technologies up and running by late 2006.
